Private Pay Proposition
The Value of Private Pay Services
I offer relationship counseling and individual therapy in person in East Greenwich, Rhode Island and through telehealth in Rhode Island and Connecticut. I help couples and individuals navigate anxiety, relationship conflict, intimacy concerns, and major life transitions.
My approach focuses on understanding the patterns that keep you feeling stuck, what drives those patterns, and how you can begin responding differently. Private pay allows us to focus on your concerns and goals without making insurance coverage requirements the basis for treatment decisions.
Counseling Focused on What Matters to You
You may understand what is happening in your relationship or life and still feel unsure how to change it. Maybe the same arguments keep happening with your partner, attempts to communicate leave you feeling further apart, anxiety affects your daily decisions, or a life transition has left you questioning what comes next.
Private pay counseling gives us room to explore your concerns at a pace that allows for deeper understanding rather than feeling pressure to resolve everything in a single conversation. We can take time to recognize patterns, consider different perspectives, and work toward changes that feel realistic for you and your circumstances.
What Makes This Approach Different?
-
Focus on your concerns, not just a diagnosis
Your concerns do not have to fit a covered diagnosis to deserve attention. Whether you are struggling with recurring relationship conflict, intimacy concerns, anxiety, or a difficult life transition, we can focus on what is affecting you and what you want to change. Private pay allows us to make your concerns and goals the focus of our work rather than basing treatment decisions on insurance coverage criteria.
-
Understanding why patterns keep repeating
The same disagreement can happen again and again, even when both partners want things to improve. Anxiety can lead you to respond in familiar ways, even when those responses are no longer helping. We look at the emotions, expectations, and reactions beneath these patterns so you can better understand what is happening and begin trying different ways of responding.
-
More time to work through relationship difficulties
Relationship counseling sessions are 90 minutes, giving us more time to explore recurring interactions, understand the emotions beneath conflict, and help both partners express what they need and hear one another more clearly. Rather than trying to address a complicated relationship pattern in a shorter appointment, we have more room to slow down the interaction and work through what is happening between you.
-
Build confidence in yourself and your relationships
Understanding a pattern is an important step but it is not the whole process. We can work on recognizing your reactions, communicating your needs more clearly, navigating difficult conversations, and making choices that reflect what matters to you. The goal is to help you develop a better understanding of yourself and greater confidence in how you handle challenges in your life and relationships.
Understanding the Cost and Insurance Options
Relationship counseling and individual therapy are private pay at my practice. The fees and options for using insurance benefits differ by service.
$225 for 90 minutes
Relationship counseling is private pay only. I do not bill insurance or provide superbills for relationship counseling so you are responsible for the full session fee.
Before scheduling, consider whether the fee fits your budget and whether you and your partner are prepared to invest in the work. I want you to have a clear understanding of the cost before deciding to begin.
$160 for 60 minutes, initial session $175
I do not bill insurance directly. Upon request, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company if you have out of network mental health benefits. Reimbursement depends on your plan and is not guaranteed.
Before beginning, contact your insurance company to ask about out of network coverage, your deductible, reimbursement rates, and any documentation requirements. Your insurer can explain your plan's benefits but cannot guarantee how a future claim will be processed.
Is Private Pay a Fit for You?
Private pay services may be a good fit if you are looking for support with relationship concerns, anxiety, or life transitions and the fees are manageable for your circumstances. You do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out. A free consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for, ask questions, and decide whether working together feels like a good fit. You deserve to understand both what counseling involves and what it will cost before deciding whether to begin.

Private pay counseling allows us to focus on your concerns, goals, and progress without making insurance coverage requirements the basis for treatment decisions. This can offer more flexibility in what we address and how we approach your concerns. Whether private pay is the right choice depends on your needs, preferences, and budget.
-
Individual counseling focuses on your personal concerns, experiences, and goals. Relationship counseling focuses on the patterns between partners and the ways those patterns affect the relationship. Most topics can be explored in either service and depends more on who is in the room. You can explore each service in more detail to decide which best fits your needs or we can do a consultation to discuss it together.
